Today’s feature comes from the mind of 20-year-old independent comic artist and illustrator, Olivia Stephens. Stephens is currently a Junior enrolled at the Rhode Island School of Design in the Illustration Department. Judging by this webcomic Alone, Stephens is definitely on the right track!

Alone is a series of vignettes depicting the budding relationship between Jack, a widower and quiet owner of a diner, and Sarah, the lively new owner of the coffee shop next door. The comic explores both of their lives before and after finding each other, as well as the ways in which their pasts interfere with their present relationship. Alone contains/will explore themes of death, mourning, substance abuse and navigating queer/minority identities.

The first segment of Alone was a final assignment in Stephens’ college comics class to make a 4-8 page short. Afterwards, she decided to not leave Jack and Sarah behind, so she started writing more vignettes that expand their stories alone and together.

Alone contains instances of strong language.
